A ring worth almost £4,000 was taken from TH Baker on Pride Hill on 10 September. West Mercia Police want to trace a man they have pictured. How to help.

West Mercia Police are trying to identify a man after a ring worth almost £4,000 was stolen from a shop on Pride Hill in Shrewsbury.

The theft was reported at around 2pm on Thursday 10 September, at TH Baker on Pride Hill. The force has released a picture of a man it believes could help with its enquiries. That is set out in the force’s own appeal.

The wording matters. Police describe the man as someone who “could help with enquiries” and “could assist with our enquiries”. They have not said he is a suspect, and no arrest has been announced. We have not reproduced the picture here; it is on the force’s appeal page.

What the police have said

The appeal gives these details:

  • What: a ring “valued almost £4,000”, reported stolen
  • Where: TH Baker, Pride Hill, Shrewsbury
  • When: around 2pm on Thursday 10 September 2026
  • What police want: anyone who recognises the man pictured, or knows who he is, to get in touch

How to contact the police

The force asks anyone with information to email the investigating officer at richard.lee@westmercia.police.uk.

If you would rather not speak to the police, the independent charity Crimestoppers takes information anonymously. The force notes that Crimestoppers never asks your name and cannot trace your call or IP address. Call 0800 555 111 or use the Crimestoppers online form.

Shoplifting in central Shrewsbury

Police.uk publishes every recorded crime by month, at an approximate location. We pulled the shoplifting figures for central Shrewsbury: the town centre inside the river loop, plus the streets just across it such as Longden Coleham.

There were 215 shoplifting offences recorded there in the 12 months from September 2025 to August 2026, according to police.uk’s street-level data. That is about 18 a month.

Bar chart of shoplifting recorded in central Shrewsbury each month from September 2025 to August 2026: 18, 17, 20, 18, 13, 22, 17, 22, 25, 10, 14 and 19 offences, 215 in total. May 2026 was the highest month with 25 and June 2026 the lowest with 10.

The busiest month was May 2026, with 25 offences. The quietest was June 2026, with 10. August, the latest month published, had 19.

Two things to know about these figures:

  • Police.uk does not pin a crime to its exact address. Most offences in the centre are logged against an anonymised point named “Shopping Area”, so the data cannot tell you how many were on Pride Hill itself.
  • The figures run to August, so the 10 September theft will not appear until the September data is published.

The count is for central Shrewsbury only. It is not a Shropshire-wide figure.
